Thirty years after Edward Burns’ The Brothers McMullen wowed audiences with its exploration of the lives and struggles of three Irish American brothers from New York, the family returns in the long-awaited follow-up, The Family McMullen.

As with the original, The Family McMullen is an ensemble comedy written and directed by Burns. The new film tracks the romantic entanglements of a now 50something Barry McMullen (Burns) and his 20something kids, as well as his brother Patrick (Michael McGlone) and widowed sister-in-law Molly (Connie Britton), who are also facing unexpected romantic hurdles.

In addition to multiple EMMY and Golden Globe Award-nominated actress Britton (Friday Night Lights, American Horror Story, The White Lotus) Burns (Saving Private Ryan, The Holiday) and McGlone (She’s the One, The Bone Collector) each reprising their roles from the first film, the film also stars EMMY and SAG Award nominee and Golden Globes winner Tracee Ellis Ross (American Fiction, Black-ish), Halston Sage (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Prodigal Son), SAG Award winner Juliana Canfield (Succession), Pico Alexander (Home Again, Gossip Girl), and SAG Award winner Brian d’Arcy James (Spotlight).

The film’s producers are Ellen H. Schwartz, Aaron Lubin and Burns, and the executive producer is Claudine Marrotte. Joining Burns behind the camera are director of photography William Rexer, production designer Sam Bader, editor Janet Gaynor, and composer Séamus Egan.

The film is available on HBO Max starting December 5th 2025!

The film’s tag line is as follows:

Halston recently caught up with LA Confidential Magazine to talk about her new film, “Daughter of the Bride.” The article is accompanied by a few new portraits of Halston, here’s an excerpt from the article:

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, MarVista Enetertainment’s newest romantic comedy, Daughter of the Bride, zeroes in on mom and daughter duo Diane (Marcia Gay Harden) and Kate (Halston Sage), who are also best friends. Their close dynamic gets thrown for a loop when Diane announces her engagement to Bruce (Aidan Quinn), who she’s been secretly dating for a number of weeks. Though Kate has hardly ever seen her mom commit to a long-term relationship (a habit she has also picked up), she carries on with wedding planning and learning to let her mom be happy. All the while, Kate must navigate her own love life and career aspirations.

Daughter of the Bride hits theaters and on-demand services on Feb. 3. But before its premiere, star Halston Sage caught up with Los Angeles Confidential to dive into the movie. Filmed over the course of a month, Sage describes the “fun” shoot as idyllic and that the New Jersey town—just about 30 minutes outside of Manhattan— felt almost like being on a backlot.
